Read-and-respond exercise

Due:  At the start of class Monday, Sept. 16

Write a short description of the paper, including your analysis of the following questions:

• What is Turing's thesis?  What is the point he is trying to make?
• What evidence does he bring in support of this thesis?
• In what way can this paper be seen as a response to Descartes?

Review carefully Turing's comments on universal computers.

There are lots of other questions that could be asked (some of which may appear on our exams), but this will get us started in discussion Monday.
