Take-home final examination

Fall 2007

Ground rules:

• You may consult with the textbook, or with me.  No consultation with any other person, book, web site, etc. is permitted.  During finals week I expect to be in my office Thursday afternoon (1 - 3), and will also be available by email.
• For each of the assigned problems, give a written explanation of how you got your answer.  No answers without this explanation can be accepted.
• This exam is to be turned in no later than 2:00 Friday, December 21, 2007.  I will be in my office between noon and 2:00 on that date to accept papers.  If you want to turn it in earlier, please find me in my office, slide it under the door, or give it to the Departmental Secretary and ask her to put it in my mailbox.  You may also send it as a word document if you prefer.  Unless you turn it in to me directly, be sure that I send you a note saying that I have received it.  Please also be sure to retain a copy for yourself just in case.
• Late submissions can not be accepted.

Please work the following problems from the textbook:

1. On page 107, problem 14 (all parts)
2. On pages 199 - 200, problem 9
3. On page 330, problem 4
4. On page 369, problem 22
5. On page 424, problem 10 (all parts)
6. On page 563, problem 16
7. On page 655, problem 3.  Please in addition show the values of each vertex and the "visited set" (S) at each step.
8. On page 744, problem 11
