Math 280 B
Fall 2009
Exam 4 Review
Disclaimer: I have attempted to be comprehensive in the
following, but important items may have been omitted by mistake. If
you see such an omission, please let me know, but you are responsible
for all of the lecture material to date.
The fourth hour exam for Math 280 will be held on Friday, December 4, and
will cover section 13.2 through section 14.2 of the textbook, skipping the
sections on polar, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates and section 13.8 on
substitutions). In particular, be prepared
to:
- Be able to integrate functions of several variables over regions of
various shapes. Be able to describe two and three dimensional regions
in several different ways.
- Be able to calculate areas and volumes, and to determine the center of
mass of a two or three dimensional region. Moments of inertia will not
appear on the exam.
- Be able to find the gradient field of a scalar function.
- Be able to evaluate line integrals.
- Be able to define and calculate work, circulation, and flux. For
this, you may wish to review the following homework problems (not to turn
in): On pages 865 - 866, problems 1 - 9, 23, 25, and 37. These
questions are for your review only and are not to be turned in, but I would
be happy to answer questions on them during our exam review Thursday.
- There will be no exam problems from section 14.3 (until the final).
This corrects a statement I made today (12/1/09) in lecture.
