Caveat: Although I try to be comprehensive in these exam reviews,
please understand that you are responsible for the material covered since the
last exam. If you notice something that I have missed, please do let me
know.
The fourth hour exam will be Friday, December 7, and will cover
Chapter 6 (sections 6.1 - 6.3), chapter 8 (8.1 - 8.3 and 8.5) and chapter 9 (through 9.3) of the
textbook. In your review look over assigned problems,
definitions, and biographical essays.
- The basics of probability theory and using
these principles to solve problems.
- Bayes' Theorem
- Basic relations, n-ary relations, formal
definition of relations and functions.
- Properties of relations
- The relationship between relations and the
relational database management system.
- Equivalence relations (including
equivalence classes). There may be questions on modular arithmetic.
- Basic graph terminology, special graphs
- Representing graphs (incidence and
adjacency matrices)
- Graph isomorphisms
