Exam 4 Review
Disclaimer: I have attempted to be comprehensive in the
following, but important items may have been omitted by mistake. If
you see such an omission, please let me know, but you are responsible
for all of the lecture material to date.
The fourth hour exam for Math 180 will be held on Friday, April 30, and
will cover section 4.5 through section 5.2 of the textbook. In particular, be prepared
to:
- Be able to work optimization problems (4.5)
- Be able to apply l'Hôpital's
rule.(4.6)
- Be able to use Newton's method and the method of bisection to solve
simple problems.
- Be able to find the antiderivatives of a function.
- Be able to calculate an approximation for the area under a curve.
- Be able to use sigma notation, including the rules for summations and
the basic formulae for the sum of the first n numbers, the sum of the
squares of the first n numbers, and the sum of the cubes of the first n
numbers.
- Be able to define a partition, the norm of a partition, and say what a
Riemann sum is.
