Math 160 K

Fall 2009

Assignments

Assignments are due in class on the due date.

Please show your work (where appropriate).  Problems with only an answer may not receive credit (homework and exams)

Exercises for this course will come in two varieties:  Basic, short answer questions (such as Assignment #1 below) and assignments (such as Assignment #2 below) which call for critical analysis and writing.  For this second type of assignment, please write clearly and professionally, as if you were the Statistician for come company, organization, educational institution, etc.  Part of your grade for this second group of assignments will be determined by the quality of your writing.

A note on the more formal exercises.  In exercises calling for writing (such as Assignment 2), please respond in the form of a report, considering each of the questions in the assignment as a section of the report.  You should open with a description of the problem (which can be, for the most part, taken from the problem write-up).  While you should do all parts of the problem, you may want to consider incorporating each into your writing (into a consistent narrative).  For each question, state the problem you are trying to s olve.   You should use complete sentences in your answers.  Address your response to an intelligent audience without access to the textbook.  Final reports should printed out from an appropriate word processing program (such as MS Word)
