Disclaimer: I have attempted to be comprehensive in the following,
but important items may have been omitted by mistake. If you see such
an omission, please let me know, but you are responsible for all of
the lecture material to date.
Notes:
- In calculus classes, you need to show sufficient work so that I can see
how you get to an answer. Credit may not be given simply for an
answer.
- You will not need a calculator for this exam.
The fourth hour exam will be on Friday, December 2, and will cover sections
7.6 and 8.1 - 8.5.
Material
- Be able to solve ordinary differential equations of the forms discussed
in section 7.6. Be able to work with initial conditions and also to
work orthogonal trajectory problems in addition to ODE's discussed in that
section.
- Be able to define sequences, limit of a sequence, partial sums, and
infinite sums.
- Be able to test for convergence / non-convergence using the tools
discussed in sectins 8.1 - 8.5 including
- Basic series (geometric, p-series)
- Limit test
- Integral test
- Comparison tests
- Ratio and root tests
Be able to give the conditions required for each test.
- Be able to state the Bounded Monotone Convergence Theorem and give
definitions for such things as bounded, monotone, strictly monotone,
increasing, etc.
