Math 103

Final Exam Review

Caveat:  Although I try to be comprehensive in these exam reviews, please understand that you are responsible for the material covered since the last exam.  If you notice something that I have missed, please do let me know

Math 103 has a final exam scheduled for Wednesday, May 9, 4:00 - 6:00 PM.  It will be a two-hour, comprehensive exam having the weight of two hour exams.  University regulations require that all students in this class take the final at this time.

In your review for the final, please review homework, earlier exams, and the earlier exam review documents. 

Since Exam #3, we have considered the Theory of Games in chapter 15, through a discussion on The Prisoners' Dilemma.

• Be able to give definitions and describe two-person total-conflict games.  Be able to say what saddlepoints are and how they may be used.
• Be able to take a payoff matrix and calculate an optimum mixed strategy for one or the other player.
• Be able to describe "The Prisoners' Dilemma".
• Review questions:  In reviewing the material in chapter 15 for the final, you might consider working:
• The skills check problems on pages 500 - 501
• The odd-numbered problems on pages 502 - 504 (through the problems for section 15.3).
• We have been introduced to two new (for us) mathematicians since the last exam:
• John F. Nash, Jr.
• Albert W. Tucker
• John von Neumann
