Honors 213Second Hour Exam Review
Disclaimer: I have attempted to be comprehensive in the
following, but important items may have been omitted by mistake. If
you see such an omission, please let me know, but you are responsible
for all of the lecture material to date.
The second hour exam for Honors 213 will be held on Friday,
March 23, and will cover from chapter 2 (projective and affine planes, problem 9
on page 64) through Proposition 3.13 (beginning with incidence
geometry and running through the material on congruence).
- Definitions:
- Be able to define the terms that appear in chapters 2 and 3
(formal definitions). In particular, be able to provide the
definitions of affine and projective geometries that appear in
chapter 2.
- Be able to define the terms that we have encountered so far
in Chapter 3 (through the axioms of congruence)
- Models and interpretations
- Be able to say (in a particular case) if a given interpretation is a
model of the incidence axioms and whether the model is an affine or
projective plane (or neither).
- Proofs
- Be able to construct proofs for fairly straightforward
statements (i.e., there are some of the homework problems that
I will not give you on an exam). Be able to justify the steps
in a proof. A review of homework problems would be a good
review for this part. I will provide a list of the axioms so far,
but you are responsible for the rest.
- Be prepared for a brief (5 pts.) historical question such as that
which appeared on the first hour exam.
Please let me know if there are any questions. Many thanks!
