Exam #3 review:
Disclaimer: I have attempted to be comprehensive in the following,
but important items may have been omitted by mistake. If you see such
an omission, please let me know, but you are responsible for all of
the lecture material to date.
The third hour exam will be on Wednesday, April 28, and will cover:
- Date: Chapters 4, 6, 11, 12
- Sunderraman, chapter 2
- The data dictionary
- Forms and reports (to the extent described below)
- Bottom-up design
Material
- SQL
- Be able to use the advanced features of SQL, including subqueries, tuple variables, exists/not exists, functions, group by and having.
The solutions to the problems in exercise set #6 are available from the
course home page (go to assignments).
- Bottom-up design:
- Be able to describe in detail how bottom-up design works (the step-by-step process discussed in class and in the course notes)
- Be able to apply this process to a simple form (not as complicated as the homework exercise)
- Be able to describe in general terms what is stored in the data dictionary
- Be able to describe in very general terms how a form or a report is created (you do not need to know individual keystrokes). In particular, say what a trigger is (for example, when using a button)
- Relational databases work in tables, programs work a record at a time. How does Java get around this problem?
